SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

OUR SIDE IS BECOMING WOKE, WOKE I TELL YOU – FROM PJ MEDIA:    Meet LEXIT — Latinos exiting the Democratic Party.  The LEXIT Strike Force, led by Texas businessman Duke Machado, is running a slate of candidates taking on the Democrats who dominate San Antonio’s city council. The LEXIT Strike Force held a press conference in San Antonio Tuesday to highlight the candidates it is supporting in the Alamo City’s upcoming elections.  Mr. Machado, the strike force’s national director, led off the press conference articulating the group’s core values.

“LEXIT USA completely opposes Joe Biden’s policy on catch and release,” Machado said. “Illegal immigrants coming across our border are just flooding into the state of Texas. These people are being released into our state and they’re hitting our neighborhoods. We don’t know who they are. We don’t know their backgrounds. We don’t know what kind of situation they have medically. They’re just being released. We oppose catch and release.” He called for Biden’s policy to “stop immediately.”

Machado was referring to numerous reports that the Biden administration is relying on local jurisdictions along the border to conduct COVID testing, without providing them any means to quarantine those who test positive. Many such illegal migrants are being released and allowed to travel away from the border.

Machado went on to list the LEXIT Strike Force’s values: a strong border with a completed wall, strong support for the Second Amendment, strong support for police, and opposition to defunding police, which Machado says puts the public in danger. LEXIT also supports pro-life and family values, Machado said.  One of the great lies circulated by the left is that Hispanics favor illegal immigration.   Actual surveys prove that wrong.  Hispanics have the same fears about illegal immigrants as other Americans.  We'll watch what happens in San Antonio.

WELCOME GEORGE ORWELL – FROM NEWSBUSTERS:   An organization backed with millions of dollars from liberal billionaires Bill Gates and George Soros has launched a commission led by radical liberals to fight “mis- and disinformation.”  The commission, dubbed the Aspen Institute Commission on Information Disorder, is co-chaired by leftist Katie Couric Media founder Katie Couric. Couric recently suggested during a segment with HBO host Bill Maher that “we” should “deprogram” people within former President Donald Trump’s “cult.” The commission is also chaired by leftist Rashad Robinson, who leads the Soros-funded and racially charged Color of Change group. Color of Change was recently behind an effort to defund police foundations. The last co-chair, former Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Director Chris Krebs, had claimed that the 2020 election was “the most secure in history.” Krebs's comment earned him backlash from a senior Department of Homeland Security official, according to Fox News.  The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and two organizations within Soros’s Open Society Network — Foundation to Promote Open Society ($2,594,780) and the Open Society Institute ($445,000) — have pumped Aspen Institute with at least $101,854,593 and $3,039,780 respectively between 2003 and 2020, according to Foundation Directory Online data. In addition, Aspen noted that the Commission was “fully funded” by Craig Newmark Philanthropies, the grantmaking organization of liberal billionaire Craigslist founder Craig Newmark. Last year, reporting showed that Newmark had spent $170 million to “save journalism” and “beat President Trump.”  Finally, America will have a real ministry of truth, and Katie Couric will run it.  We should all sleep better tonight knowing what good hands we'll be in.

THE PUBLIC IS SPEAKING OUT ON CANCEL CULTURE – AT 5:46 P.M. ET:  And cancel culture is becoming the loser.  From The Hill: 

A majority of Americans say they view cancel culture as a threat to their freedom, according to a new Harvard CAPS-Harris poll released exclusively to The Hill on Monday. 

Sixty-four percent of respondents said that there is "a growing cancel culture" that is a threat to their freedom, while 36 percent said they did not view it as a threat to their freedom. 

Additionally, the poll found that 36 percent of Americans said cancel culture is a "big problem," while 32 percent called it a "moderate problem." Another 20 percent said it was a "small problem" and 13 percent said it is "not a problem." 

The findings come amid the growing societal debate over cancel culture, which is defined by Merriam-Webster as "the practice or tendency of engaging in mass canceling as a way of expressing disapproval and exerting social pressure."

The Harvard CAPS-Harris poll found that 54 percent of respondents said they were "concerned" that if they expressed their opinions online that they would be banned or fired, while 46 percent said they were not concerned. 

"It is a chilling finding that most people in the country now are afraid they would be fired if they expressed their real views on social media," said Mark Penn, the director of the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey.

"The public generally gives negative ratings to social media companies and sees the movement as more about censorship rather than trying to correct wrongs. It is growing as a national issue," he added. 

The Harvard CAPS-Harris poll of 1,945 registered voters was conducted from March 24 to 25. It is a collaboration of the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and The Harris Poll.   Full poll results will be posted online later this week. The survey is an online sample drawn from the Harris Panel and weighted to reflect known demographics. As a representative online sample, it does not report a probability confidence interval. 

COMMENT:  Democracies turn slowly, but when they turn they often turn decisively.  We hope this poll result reflects a decisive turn by the American public.  We also hope it reflects an increasing contempt for a media that has done almost nothing to fight cancel culture and has often encouraged it.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 11:50 P.M. ET: 

BIDEN'S A-TEAM – FROM THE NEW YORK POST:   CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky became emotional at a White House coronavirus press briefing on Monday — her voice breaking as she warned that the US is facing “impending doom” as COVID-19 cases rise again.  “I’m gonna lose the script and I’m going to reflect on the recurring feeling I have of impending doom,” Walensky told reporters at a White House coronavirus press briefing.  “We have so much to look forward to so much promise and potential of where we are, and so much reason for hope. But right now I’m scared.”  “I know what it’s like as a physician to stand in that patient room, gowned, gloved, masked, shielded and to be the last person to touch some else’s loved one because their loved one couldn’t be there,” she continued.  “And I know what it’s like to pull up to your hospital every day and see an extra morgue sitting outside.”  Some people should not be let outside without a parent or guardian. 

HOW LONG WILL THIS GO ON? – FROM FOX:   Another woman has stepped forward to accuse New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo of sexual misconduct.  The accuser, Sherry Vill, said Cuomo grabbed her face and kissed her in front of her home in 2017.  Vill was married at the time of the alleged incident, her attorney Gloria Allred said. Cuomo visited Vill's home in Greece, N.Y., to survey flood damage, The Wall Street Journal's Jimmy Vielkind reported.  "She has decided to break her silence and overcome her fear," Allred said according to the Daily Caller News Foundation's Mary Margaret Olohan.  Cuomo faces a growing number of sexual harassment allegations starting with former aide Lindsay Boylan, who alleged that the governor attempted to kiss her in his office, which he has denied.  Cuomo has said he never touched anyone inappropriately and apologized to anyone he made feel uncomfortable in the workplace.  Cuomo is playing the long game, hoping time will make his problem go away, and that he will be re-elected next year.  He could be right.  New York is a Democratic state, and obnoxious behavior has never counted too strongly against any Democrat in these parts.

A MESS – AT 9:32 P.M. ET:  I have never seen a new presidential administration as confused, and as deceptive, as this one.  From the New York Post: 

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Monday clarified that Vice President Kamala Harris isn’t in charge of handling the migrant surge at the US-Mexico border and that her role only pertains to the “root causes” of the crisis.

Psaki made the clarification during her daily press briefing after she was asked about an internal Biden administration report projecting record numbers of unaccompanied minors for another six months.

“The vice president of the United States will be helping lead that effort, specifically the root causes —not the border, there’s some confusion over that,” Psaki said.

Yeah, I'd say so.

Biden last week tapped Harris to lead diplomatic efforts to stem the flow of migrants from Central America.

Psaki dodged a question on the document reported on by Axios projecting that the number of minors could soar to 26,000 for the month of September, up from about 16,000 this month and an estimated 22,000-25,000 in May.

“What we’re working to do is put in place steps and actions to help address the situation at the border, including, of course, expediting processing and opening up additional shelters, but also re-instituting policies like the Central American minors program to encourage young people to apply in their country and not make that treacherous journey,” Psaki said.

“We were also in a circumstance where we are digging out of a broken system over the past four years — not just the inhumane policies, but the fact that there were never efforts put in place to look for us and seek shelters where these children could be safely and humanely housed.”

COMMENT:  But once again we see what is making it so easy for this new crowd to deceive, to blunder, to destroy – the fact that the media establishment will protect them, as it protected Barack Obama (come to save us).  We are getting a civics lesson in the role of a free press, and how that role has been distorted by the "journalists" now in control.

THE HORROR SHOW – AT 5:20 P.M. ET:  A Monday to remember.  We turned on our TV sets and saw wall-to-wall coverage of the Minneapolis trial of the officer charged with murdering George Floyd.  I repeat:  wall-to-wall.  Every cable news outlet, every major network.  Full time.  We do not trivialize the death of George Floyd, but there have been many, many other deaths from the rioting of the last year, and yet they seem to disappear from view rather quickly.

Just last week, in Boulder, ten people, including a police officer, were murdered in a massacre.  It is gone from the news media.  The coverage started to fade as soon as it was learned that the alleged murderer isn't white.  In other words, the horror didn't follow the approved script of the journalistic left.  In the George Floyd case, the vastly corrupt American media is sending its own message:  Watch this.  We won't allow you to watch anything else.  This is the important event.  Police brutality.  The police are the problem.  And so we get the wall-to-wall treatment.  This is what you must believe.

And still, on too many days, we get this story, without much comment by the American press at all.  From Fox, this morning: 

The Salem Police Department has issued an advisory Sunday evening urging residents to stay away from Oregon's State Capitol building.

"Due to activities expected at the @OregonCapitol today be aware there may be pedestrian congestion in the area," authorities said in a Twitter thread. "If poss[ible], avoid traveling thru streets around the capitol mall. Anyone observing criminal behavior should immediately move to a safe location & call 9-1-1."

Police warned that the protest included approximately 150-200 participants who are "heavily armed."

"The risk of violence has increased as the opposing protestors are expected to arrive in large numbers," police said. "We are advising residents/visitors to avoid the capitol mall area. For those in the area, please remain cautious/aware given the circumstances."

Authorities added that the department, along with Oregon State Police and the Marion County Sheriff's Office, would be monitoring the situation and that they were "prepared to act in the interest of the public’s safety."

Police received reports of vehicles driving past the Capitol being struck with balloons filled with paint as well as green lasers being pointed at drivers.

Videos shared by independent journalist Andy Ngo show that one vehicle had its window smashed out while another protester was nearly run over by a truck. Ngo said the protesters were Antifa, noting that they brought their flag as well as weapons and riot gear.

Wait.  I thought Antifa didn't exist, that was merely a mirage in the minds of conservatives.

Police issued an audible warning to protesters that they are participating in an unpermitted event and blocking Court Street.

"Exit the roadway and obey all laws," they said. "Failure to do so may result in arrest. Stay on the sidewalks and exit the roadway."

Protesters have been moved away from the street by Oregon State Police and the Salem Police Department's crowd management teams.

Salem Statesman reporter Virginia Barreda said police declared the protest "unlawful assembly" and formed a line in front of the Capitol. She added that many protesters have cleared the grounds of the Capitol towards Center Street with SWAT following them.

One individual has been arrested by police after pulling out a gun.

COMMENT:  And we're getting used to this kind of thing.  Portland, in that same state of Oregon, has been Ground Zero for continuing riots.  Riots of the left.

Just another day today in the current history of America.  And you must not complain.  That is an order from the WOKE authority.  Follow it or be canceled.
